The best tool to use when you have to get rid of the annoying snow that piles up on the driveway and in the yard is the snow blower. But operating this unit isn’t as easy as it seems. There are a lot of things that can go wrong if you’re not careful. Therefore, if you want to learn how to safely operate the snow blower, read the following lines.

How to Safely Use a Snow Blower Picture

Stay away from the moving parts of the machine

Snow blowers are usually safe to operate as long as you are careful around them. Small units like the Troy-Bilt Squall 2100 are very easy to maneuver, according to the troy bill 2100 ratings, but you still need to pay attention not to put your hands and feet in the proximity of the moving parts of the snow blower otherwise, you might hurt yourself badly. Even though this model has a rubber auger that seems less dangerous than the steel auger, don’t put your hands in the auger. If the snow blower clogs while it’s operating, shut it off and wait for all the moving parts to stop running before you proceed to fix it. Don’t remove the snow with your hands. Use a stick or something similar to do it. Also, keep in mind that the machine will start operating again once the obstruction has been cleared.

Don’t rush when you’re using it

If you rush yourself when you’re operating the snow blower, the unit might get damaged and you might get hurt if you aren’t paying attention. Instead of rushing to get the job done, take your time. The machine might get clogged with snow if you’re in a hurry. Snow blowers are indeed powerful, but all machines have a limit. Make sure that you don’t clog yours to not have to go through the tiring and time-consuming procedure of eliminating the obstructions. Your own health can suffer if you hurry while removing the snow as well. The cold weather that settles when winter comes isn’t appropriate for running while you push a heavy object. You will surely catch a cold. Therefore, take your time and pace yourself. It won’t take long to finish the job anyway.

Don’t leave the snow blower’s side when it’s running

The most irresponsible thing that you can do is to leave the snow blower unattended. If you have to go inside or do anything else meanwhile, turn the machine off. Your child or pet could enter into contact with the running machine and hurt himself badly. Also, make sure that you never refuel it while it’s running or when the engine is still hot. You put yourself in a lot of danger if you proceed otherwise. When it comes to adding fuel to the machine, never do it indoors. Always add it when you’re outdoors. The vapors are highly dangerous to inhale. Outdoors, the risk of you inhaling them is extremely reduced.

Don’t forget the pre-season maintenance procedures

You keep the snow blower locked away probably 9 months per year. Before you start re-using the machine you have to do some maintenance procedures to ensure that it will work properly and that you will be safe when you use it. You have to lubricate and check the belts before you run it for the first time. This will keep the machine operating at its full potential and it will keep you out of harm’s way as well.
