Your body is a complex system that relies on multiple factors to make it work properly and these factors also include some less healthy examples like bacteria and germs. Living in an overly-sanitized home is more likely to triggers allergies, especially in children who are more sensitive. The dishwasher is one of those appliances that can cause more harm than good because it creates an environment that is too clean and sanitized. In case you didn’t know this, dishwashers can increase allergy risks in children and this article will prove it to you.

Bacteria and the immune system

A healthy and proper living implies getting into contact with a wide range of bacteria that can be considered beneficial for your health for various reasons. Most people believe that bacteria can only cause harm because they attack our health and cause diseases, but some types of bacteria can even keep some diseases away. It’s true that children are more sensitive and should be more protected from contaminants, but sometimes, an overly-sanitized environment can make them weaker and more prone to diseases and infections.

Dishwashers kill too many bacteria

Having a dishwasher at home is good, but you must know that it can remove too many bacteria from the dishes, which is not always a good thing, as some bacteria are good. Dishwashers use water at a higher temperature than you would normally use during hand washing, which automatically kills more bacteria. If you wonder what is the best dishwasher, it is the one that cleans without overly sanitizing. Children who live in homes with a dishwasher are not exposed to so many bacteria, which makes them more vulnerable to allergies and eczema caused by bacteria they will later get into contact with. This is why the dishwasher is considered not so beneficial for children and their use should be reduced.

Hand washing keeps allergies away

Washing the dishes by hand doesn’t increase the risk of allergies, on the contrary, it can minimize children’s chances of developing allergies and eczema. Many studies support this idea and it has been proven through various tests. Exposing children to bacteria found on the dishes you wash by hand strengthens their immune system, thus making them stronger against infections and allergies. If the child’s immune system is working well, they will develop immunity to a certain allergen and they are less prone to developing asthma or other respiratory diseases.
Households where the dishes are being washed by hands have been labeled as more proper for a child’s development as the bacteria found on the dishes can improve their immune system and the rate of allergies is reduced.
